Where Are Forza Horizon 6 Save Files Located?

Forza Horizon 6 splits saves by storefront: Steam uses Local AppData, the Xbox app uses save containers.

Last updated

Forza Horizon 6 stores Steam saves in %LOCALAPPDATA%\ForzaHorizon6\LocalStorage_Shared under a User id folder. The Xbox app build instead buries saves in the XboxGames save container system, with a legacy wgs fallback under Packages.

The two layouts never mix. Copying Steam files into the container build corrupts rather than transfers. On either version copy the whole user folder, never single files, and shut the game down fully first since progress writes on exit.

Where Forza Horizon 6 stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ForzaHorizon6\LocalStorage_Shared\User_<id> (Steam)

Copy the entire User folder for backup. Xbox app saves live under %SystemDrive%\XboxGames\GameSave with pgs and wgs subfolders, or the legacy Packages Microsoft wgs path. Cloud sync can overwrite local experiments on both.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Forza Horizon 6 saves on Steam?

Close the game fully, open %LOCALAPPDATA%\ForzaHorizon6\LocalStorage_Shared, and copy the whole User folder dated today. Restore it the same way with Steam Cloud paused so the cloud does not stomp your copy.

Can I move a Steam save to the Xbox app version?

No. The folder structures, account systems, and sync behavior differ completely. Transfers only work within the same storefront. Keep one backup per version if you own both.
