Where Does CyberGhost VPN Store Settings and Logs?
CyberGhost VPN app install paths on Windows and Mac, and how settings and logs actually work.
Last updated
CyberGhost keeps account and app settings inside the client, behind the gear icon in the lower left. Protocol, MTU, kill switch, content blocking and Smart Rules all live there. There is no published per user folder you are meant to edit by hand.
Logs follow the same idea. Export them from inside the app when support asks. The service runs a no logs policy for traffic on its servers, so anything on your disk is client diagnostics (connection attempts, performance data) rather than browsing history. Manual OpenVPN users have one real folder: the generic OpenVPN config directory.
Where CyberGhost VPN stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files\CyberGhost VPN
Install root (needs .NET 4.8, about 310 MB free). Open the gear icon for protocol and MTU changes. Manual OpenVPN files you download go to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config, not into the CyberGhost folder.
/Applications/CyberGhost VPN.app
Same in-app settings model as Windows. For system level traces use Console and reveal the log in Finder. Remove via Applications plus the VPN profile in System Settings when uninstalling.
Frequently asked questions
how do I send CyberGhost logs to support
Use the in-app troubleshooter to bundle diagnostics instead of hunting folders. It collects the client state support needs. Mention your protocol, server and whether kill switch or content blocking was on.
where are manual OpenVPN configs for CyberGhost
Download the config zip from your account, then copy ca.crt, client.crt, client.key and openvpn.ovpn into C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config on Windows. Right click the OpenVPN tray icon to connect to that server entry.
