Where Does Deadside Store Config and Characters?

Deadside characters live on servers while graphics and tweaks sit in LocalAppData under the game name.

Last updated

Deadside is a multiplayer survival shooter, so characters, bases, and inventories live on servers. Your disk holds settings only, in a Deadside folder under LocalAppData.

That split decides the backup strategy. There is no character file to copy, and reinstalling loses nothing but options. Copy the Config folder when migrating machines to skip the settings screens, and leave the rest to the server.

Where Deadside stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Deadside\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Unreal engine settings (WindowsNoEditor). Graphics, keys, and tweaks live here. Characters stay server-side, so this folder is the only thing worth copying.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/895400/pfx/

Proton prefix for the Windows build (AppID 895400). The LocalAppData config appears inside the prefix; progress remains server-side either way.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tweak graphics beyond the menu?

Edit the ini files in the WindowsNoEditor folder for graphics and key settings. Character progress never touches these files, so tweaks cannot wipe your stash.
