Where Are Disco Elysium Save Files Located?

Where Disco Elysium keeps .ntwtf.zip saves on Windows and Mac, and why the zip must never be opened.

Last updated

Disco Elysium stores saves as .ntwtf.zip files in SaveGames under AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium. Each filename carries the location, day and time, which makes identifying the point of no return easy without opening anything.

The zip format is load bearing: the game consumes the archive directly, so extracting it destroys the save it was meant to preserve. Steam Cloud sync is uneven across platforms either way, which is why manual transfers remain the reliable cross OS route.

Where Disco Elysium stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\SaveGames

Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\SaveGames into Explorer. Never extract the .ntwtf.zip files. Cloud copies sit at store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage as fallback.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/com.zaumstudio.discoelysium/SaveGames

Create a new game once so the folder exists, then drop transferred zips in unopened. Reach it in Finder with Go > Go to Folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a Disco Elysium save from Windows to Mac?

Download the .zip from Steam Cloud remote storage and place it unopened in the Mac SaveGames folder (create a new game first so the folder exists). The game reads the zip as-is; extracting it breaks the format it expects.

How do I back up before the final day?

Quit the game, copy the whole SaveGames folder elsewhere, and only then experiment. Fan edits and version jumps both corrupt in place. Dated filenames carry the in game day and time, so sorting by name approximates chronology.
