Where Are Doom 3 Save Files Located?
The Doom 3 save files on PC, split between the install folder and Saved Games for the BFG Edition.
Last updated
The 2004 original saves inside its own install folder under a base directory, the way PC games did before user folders took over. The BFG Edition moved to the modern Saved Games profile folder under id Software instead.
Two releases, two philosophies, zero shared files. Match the instructions to the version on the title screen and the Mars base transfers cleanly.
Where Doom 3 stores this, by platform
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\DOOM 3\base\savegames
Original 2004 release: inside the install folder starting from your Steam library root. The BFG Edition uses %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 3 BFG\base instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does this cover the BFG Edition?
The paths differ: BFG saves in Saved Games under id Software while the original uses its install folder. Check which edition you own first.
How do I back up original Doom 3?
Copy the savegames folder out of the install directory. Keep the copy outside the Steam library so verification cannot touch it.
