Where Does Dotclear Store Content?

Dotclear stores uploads in public folder, cache in var, and posts in database. Themes live under themes.

Last updated

Dotclear splits content. Text lives in MySQL or MariaDB. Files live on disk. Uploads go to public by default, with an optional second media path per blog. Themes and plugins each have their own folders.

Cache lives under var. That folder also holds logs and lock files. For backup, dump the database plus public, themes, and config. Var can be rebuilt, but logs help with debugging. Test media uploads after restore, since the public path setting must match the copied folder location. Keep themes and plugins with the backup, since versions must match the database schema on boot.

Frequently asked questions

how do i migrate dotclear

Dump the MySQL or MariaDB database, then copy public and themes. Restore the dump first, then the files. Clear var/cache if pages look stale after the move.

can i delete the dotclear var folder

Cache and compiled templates live under var. You can delete var/cache safely. Dotclear rebuilds it on next page load. Keep var/log if you need recent error history.
