Where Are Downfall Save Files Located?

Where the Downfall 2016 remake keeps agssave slots on Windows and Linux, and how quicksaves differ from manuals.

Last updated

The Downfall remake keeps saves as numbered agssave files in the Saved Games tree on Windows. Steam builds carry a store suffix while other copies use the plain year folder. Quick and autosaves occupy the top of the numbering range.

A companion config file shares the folder for options the setup tool manages. Linux runs the bundled Windows build with an XDG data home for saves. Copy the whole folder with the game closed to move all fifty slots at once. Slot numbering runs past forty, so move the whole set when clearing space.

Where Downfall stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Downfall (2016) Steam

Holds numbered agssave slots with quicksaves at the top of the range. Steam builds use the suffixed folder. Config file shares the folder for setup options.

Linux
~/.local/share/ags/Downfall (2016) Steam

Bundled Windows build saves under the XDG data home. Same numbered slot layout as Windows. Copy the folder between OS paths for moves.

Frequently asked questions

Downfall says save slots are full at 45. How do I clear them?

Manual slots fill the low numbers while quick and autosaves take the high range near fifty. Move the whole numbered set out to clear space rather than deleting one file. The game recreates missing slots on next save without complaint.

Can I set a custom Downfall save folder?

Run winsetup from the game folder to point saves at a custom directory. The config file in the save folder records that choice as text. Linux builds honor the same tool through the bundled Windows copy.
