Where Does EarTrumpet Store Settings?

EarTrumpet settings inside its Microsoft Store package folder, and the leftover that blocks reinstalls.

Last updated

EarTrumpet, as a Store app, keeps state under its package family folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\40459File-New-Project.EarTrumpet_...\. Settings live in the Windows.Storage LocalSettings backend inside that tree rather than in a friendly ini, so hand editing is not on the menu.

The useful fact is the cleanup one. Leftover files in that Packages folder after uninstall can block a reinstall, and clearing them manually fixes it. Note the builds differ: Store, sideload and Chocolatey packages have separate identities and storage backends, and add ons must match the app version to load.

Where EarTrumpet stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\40459File-New-Project.EarTrumpet_1sdd7yawvg6ne\

Package family folder with LocalState, Settings and versioned add ons. Settings backend is LocalSettings (settings.dat layout may vary by Windows build). Chocolatey builds use the registry instead. Requires Windows 10 build 14393 or newer.

Frequently asked questions

EarTrumpet will not reinstall. How do I fix it?

Uninstall, then manually clear the leftover 40459File-New-Project.EarTrumpet folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages and try again. Stale package files are the usual blocker.

Why won't my EarTrumpet add-on load?

Add ons must match the app version exactly and live under the Versions subfolder. After an app update, fetch the add on build for the new version.
