Where Does EasyEffects Store Presets and Config?
Where EasyEffects keeps presets, plugin state, and its config on Linux with PipeWire or PulseAudio.
Last updated
EasyEffects stores its whole world under ~/.config/easyeffects: input and output preset folders, plugin states, and the main settings file. PipeWire users get the native build; PulseAudio users run the legacy branch against the same layout.
Presets are plain JSON, one file each, which makes backup day trivial. Copy the folder and every chain, threshold, and exciter setting travels with it. The usual disaster is reinstalling without the folder and discovering the perfect vocal chain only existed there.
Where EasyEffects stores this, by platform
~/.config/easyeffects
input/ and output/ hold one JSON file per preset; autostart state and plugin references sit beside them. Honors $XDG_CONFIG_HOME when set. Flatpak builds mirror the tree inside the sandbox, so check the sandbox path first.
Frequently asked questions
where are easyeffects presets stored
As JSON files in the input/ and output/ subfolders of ~/.config/easyeffects. Each preset is one file, so sharing one is just copying it. The last loaded preset name is remembered in the main settings file beside them.
why do easyeffects settings reset on reboot
Autostart ships disabled, so enable the service in the app preferences (it installs into the systemd user units). Without it, effects vanish on every reboot and the config folder looks abandoned. The presets themselves are untouched.
where do easyeffects plugin settings live
In the same config tree, with Calf, LSP, and stock plugin states referenced by the preset JSON. Missing plugins load as bypassed rather than deleting the chain, so installing the plugin package restores the sound.
