Where Does JamesDSP Store Presets and Config?

JamesDSP keeps presets in ~/.config/jamesdsp on Linux and in a JamesDSP folder on Android storage.

Last updated

JamesDSP splits by platform. Linux builds (PipeWire and Pulse) read ~/.config/jamesdsp, with audio.conf for settings and a presets subfolder for saved chains. Copying that folder between machines just works once the app has run once.

Android builds use a JamesDSP folder at the root of internal storage for convolver IRS files, DDC tables, and shared presets. Root or Magisk install files are system level and separate. Back up both the preset files and any IRS or VDC companions.

Android
Internal storage/JamesDSP (presets, IRS, DDC)

Convolver files in the IRS subfolder, DDC tables beside them. Copy the whole JamesDSP folder to migrate. System install zips are not part of this backup.

Linux
~/.config/jamesdsp

audio.conf plus presets folder. CLI flags like save-preset edit the same files. Per device rules live here too, so keep them when hopping distros.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install a shared JamesDSP preset?

Drop the preset into the presets folder for your platform and restart the app. On Linux that is ~/.config/jamesdsp/presets, on Android the JamesDSP folder. Bring along any IRS or VDC files it needs.

Why is my JamesDSP preset missing convolver sound?

The IRS file did not travel with the preset. Copy the exact .irs into the matching folder. Names are referenced, so renaming breaks the link silently.
