Where Are Elden Ring Save Files Located?
Elden Ring PC save location on Windows, including the numbered Steam ID folder and the ER0000.sl2 file to back up.
Last updated
On PC, Elden Ring keeps saves in your Windows user profile under AppData, not in the Steam install folder. Reinstalling or moving the game library leaves saves where they are.
Inside the EldenRing folder is a subfolder named with a long numeric Steam account ID. Your actual save is ER0000.sl2 in there, plus an automatic ER0000.sl2.bak copy.
Where Elden Ring stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\EldenRing\[SteamID]\ER0000.sl2
Paste %APPDATA%\EldenRing into the Run dialog (Win+R) to jump there without unhiding AppData. If several Steam accounts played on the PC, compare Date modified on ER0000.sl2 to find yours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up my Elden Ring save?
Copy the whole numbered Steam ID folder somewhere safe. That preserves ER0000.sl2 and its .bak backup together.
Should I disable Steam Cloud before restoring a backup?
Yes, temporarily. Right click Elden Ring in Steam, open Properties, and turn off cloud saves. Restore the files, confirm the save loads, then decide whether to turn it back on.
