Where Does Elden Ring Store Mods?
Elden Ring mods live in mod and mods folders inside the Game directory via Mod Engine 2. Install layout plus the offline EAC warning.
Last updated
Elden Ring has no Workshop, so mods install through Mod Engine 2 inside the Game folder next to eldenring.exe. Asset overhauls (Convergence, randomizers, Seamless Coop content) each get their own subfolder under Game\mod and an entry in the config file. Small DLL tweaks drop into Game\mods instead.
The saves post covers ER0000.sl2. This one covers the mod side. Launch through the Mod Engine launcher while modded, and keep a vanilla copy mindset: modded files and online play do not mix. Every major patch breaks the launcher until it updates, so keep a clean backup of the Game folder.
Where Elden Ring stores this, by platform
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game\mod
Extract Mod Engine 2 here so modengine2_launcher.exe sits beside eldenring.exe. Register each asset mod path in config_eldenring.toml. DLL mods go in the sibling Game\mods folder. Saves stay untouched in %appdata%\EldenRing.
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/1245620/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game/mod
Same Game relative layout inside the Proton prefix for app ID 1245620. Launch through the Mod Engine launcher inside the prefix, and expect mod breakage after game patches.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play online with mods installed?
No. Mod Engine 2 bypasses Easy Anti-Cheat, and going online modded risks a ban. Remove dinput8.dll and the mod files to return to vanilla, then verify files before playing online again.
What is the difference between the mod and mods folders?
Asset mods go in Game\mod\<name> and get registered in config, while single DLL mods drop straight into Game\mods. Mixing the two folders up is the classic install failure.
