Where Does EVE Online Store Logs and Chatlogs?
EVE Online logs, chatlogs and screenshots on Windows and Mac, and which subfolders matter for disputes.
Last updated
EVE Online keeps text logs in a logs folder inside its Documents directory: chatlogs per channel, gamelogs for combat and industry, market logs for traders. Screenshots live separately near the install. Everything is plain text or images, trivially portable.
Log retention is the gotcha. New sessions append constantly and old files accumulate for years, quietly eating gigabytes. Pirates hunting evidence and traders auditing margins both live in these folders.
Where EVE Online stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\EVE\logs
Chatlogs, Gamelogs and Marketlogs branch beneath. Files are plain .txt, safe to copy while the client runs. Clean ancient sessions periodically; nothing prunes them automatically.
~/Documents/EVE/logs
Same Documents relative layout as Windows. Mac clients installed via the official launcher keep logs here regardless of where the app bundle sits.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my EVE combat logs?
Under logs then Gamelogs, as timestamped .txt files. Combat, mining and loot events stream there continuously while you play. Copy them out before client reinstalls wipe the tree.
Where are EVE chat logs stored?
In the Chatlogs folder beside the game logs, one file per channel per session. Corporations investigating thefts and scams ask for these first, so keep them.
Where do EVE screenshots go?
In a Screenshots folder inside the game install or capture folder depending on client. Print Screen is the key. The logs directory itself holds text only, never images.
