Where Does Roblox Store Auto-Recovery Saves and Logs?
Where Roblox Studio auto-recovery files, player and Studio logs, and the Versions folder live on Windows and macOS, plus how to open them fast.
Last updated
Two different things get searched for here: Roblox Studio auto-recovery files, the copies it writes while you edit, and the log files Player and Studio produce when something breaks. They sit in different subfolders of the same Roblox directory on Windows, and in two separate places on a Mac.
Everything on Windows lives under one folder in local AppData. The auto-recovery folder is the one that matters after a crash, and Studio itself will open it for you if you know which menu entry to use. The logs sit in their own subfolder of that same directory.
Where Roblox stores this, by platform
%localappdata%\Roblox
Three subfolders matter: RobloxStudio\AutoSaves holds Studio auto-recovery files (Place_AutoRecovery_0.rbxl and up), logs holds both Player and Studio logs, and Versions\version-[hash] holds each installed client build. Older Studio versions wrote auto-recovery files to Documents\ROBLOX\AutoSaves instead, so check there if AppData is empty. Studio's File menu has an Open Auto Saves entry that jumps straight to the current folder.
~/Library/Application Support/Roblox
Auto-recovery files are in RobloxStudio/AutoSaves inside that folder, same naming as Windows. The logs are somewhere else entirely: ~/Library/Logs/Roblox. Both Library folders are hidden, so in Finder use Go > Go to Folder and paste the path.
Frequently asked questions
how do i open my roblox studio auto recovery file
Use the Open Auto Saves entry in Studio's File menu and it opens the right folder for you. The files are named Place_AutoRecovery_0.rbxl and open like any other place. If the menu shows nothing, the folder was cleaned up, which happens whenever Studio closes normally.
where are roblox player logs on windows
In %localappdata%\Roblox\logs. Player logs contain "Player" in the filename, Studio logs contain "Studio", and bootstrapper files start with bootstrapper_. Sort by date and send the most recent ones when reporting a bug.
why is my roblox auto recovery folder empty
Studio deletes the file when it detects a clean exit, so an empty folder usually means the last session closed properly. Recovery files only survive a crash. If you used an older build, look in Documents\ROBLOX\AutoSaves, where auto-recovery files used to be written.
