Where Does FairEmail Store Accounts and Data?
FairEmail keeps accounts and messages in private app storage. Settings travel through the in app export, not through file copies.
Last updated
FairEmail is privacy focused and open source, which shows in its storage habits: everything sensitive stays in the app's private sandbox where other apps cannot reach it. Accounts, rules, and cached messages live in internal databases, while the supported way to move settings is an export file you create yourself.
Do not go hunting the data directory with root tools for a migration. The export and import flow is the tested path and takes seconds. Keep the export file out of shared storage afterwards, since it describes your whole mail setup.

Private sandbox databases hold accounts and cached mail. Migrate through the in app settings export instead of copying files. Re enter passwords on the new device.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move FairEmail to a new phone?
Open Settings and use the export option to write a settings file to storage you choose, then import it on the new device. Re enter account passwords afterwards, since secrets stay out of the export.
Are old messages available offline?
Yes for message bodies you fetched, within the app's synchronization window. Older mail refetches from the server on demand. The local database is a cache of the mailbox, not an archive of it.
