Where Does Fantastical Store Calendars and Settings?
Fantastical reads events from the system Calendar database, with its own settings in Preferences and Containers.
Last updated
Fantastical keeps no event database of its own. It reads and writes the macOS Calendar store through EventKit, so your events live in ~/Library/Calendars like they do for the built in app. Google, Exchange, and iCloud accounts sync through the system, not through Fantastical files.
Fantastical settings such as views, alerts, and calendars sets live separately in Preferences and group containers. Exact container names have changed across Fantastical 2 and 3 and between store and website builds. A Flexibits account syncs those preferences between Macs while events keep flowing through the system store.
Where Fantastical stores this, by platform
~/Library/Calendars
System event store Fantastical reads and writes. Fantastical preferences sit in ~/Library/Preferences and group Containers nearby. Container names vary by Fantastical version and build, so check both spots.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my actual Fantastical events?
In the macOS Calendar store, not in Fantastical files. Fantastical displays and edits the same calendars the built in Calendar app uses. Fix sync issues in System Settings under Internet Accounts first.
How do I back up Fantastical properly?
Back up ~/Library/Calendars for local calendars plus a Time Machine snapshot for the rest. Cloud accounts re sync from their servers. Export critical local calendars to .ics as well for portability.
