Where Does Apple Calendar Store Events on Mac?
The Calendars folder on Mac, the cache versus account data split, and exporting calendars properly.
Last updated
Apple Calendar keeps its data in a Calendars folder under Library, with account data in .caldav and .calendar folders beside a central Calendar Cache. On My Mac calendars live only here, while cloud accounts mirror from their servers.
That split decides the safe move. Cloud calendars reappear from sign in alone; local ones need an .ics export from the Calendar app. Copy the whole folder with Calendar closed only as a disaster backup. Never merge two Calendars folders by hand, since the cache then disagrees with both.
Where macOS stores this, by platform
~/Library/Calendars
Account folders plus Calendar Cache inside. Use Go to Folder in Finder. Export .ics from the Calendar app for moves; reserve raw copies for disaster recovery.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move On My Mac calendars to a new Mac?
Select each calendar in the Calendar app and export it to .ics, then import on the new machine. Cloud calendars need no transfer at all beyond signing in.
Can I merge two Calendars folders by copying files?
No. The cache tracks its own state and hand merges corrupt it, duplicating or hiding events. Import .ics exports instead, which the app reconciles cleanly.
