Where Does Fedora Media Writer Save Downloads?
Fedora Media Writer downloads ISOs straight into Downloads with resume support. Paths plus the debug log.
Last updated
Fedora Media Writer puts downloaded images in the Downloads folder with no subfolder. In-progress fetches carry a .part suffix in the same directory and resume on retry, while finished ISOs stay for reuse with hash checks. Claims of temp or cache folders contradict the source.
There is almost no persistent config to hunt. Qt defaults apply but no documented settings folder exists. The one extra file is a debug log in Documents, which support asks for when writes fail. The USB target holds the created media; the PC side holds only the ISO and the log.
Where Fedora Media Writer stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Downloads
ISOs land here directly with .part files during fetch. Debug log at Documents\FedoraMediaWriter.log. No AppData settings store is documented; reuse existing ISOs instead of redownloading.
~/Downloads
Same Downloads behavior as Windows. Debug log at ~/Documents/FedoraMediaWriter.log. Resume works from .part files when the app restarts mid-download.
~/Downloads
Same Downloads behavior on Linux. Debug log at ~/Documents/FedoraMediaWriter.log. Hash-checked reuse means pointing the writer at an existing ISO skips the fetch entirely.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Fedora Media Writer ISO files?
In your Downloads folder with no subfolder, alongside .part files while fetching. The app reuses present ISOs after hash checks, so keep them there for repeat writes. Move them elsewhere only when disk space demands it.
Where is the Fedora Media Writer log file?
In Documents as FedoraMediaWriter.log on every OS. Attach it when reporting failed writes. It records download and write steps without holding any settings worth backing up.
Does Fedora Media Writer keep settings anywhere?
No documented location exists beyond Qt defaults. Treat the app as stateless: ISOs in Downloads plus the debug log are the only persistent traces. Version upgrades never require migrating a config folder.
