Where Does FMOD Studio Save Projects?

FMOD Studio keeps each project as a folder with a .fspro pointer file, plus built .bank outputs for game engines.

Last updated

FMOD Studio projects are folders you create per game, with a .fspro file at the root that opens the whole thing. Audio bins, metadata, mixer, and scripts sit beside it. Built banks land in a Build subfolder for handoff to Unity, Unreal, or custom engines.

Per user scripts live outside projects in LocalAppData on Windows and Preferences on Mac. Project shared scripts sit in a Scripts folder at the project root. Exclude .cache, .user, and rebuilt banks from source control and rebuild locally after checkout.

Where FMOD stores this, by platform

Windows
User-chosen project folder ([Project].fspro)

User scripts in %LOCALAPPDATA%\FMOD Studio\Scripts. Built banks in [Project]\Build. Set engine bank output to Assets\FMOD (Unity) or Content\FMOD (Unreal) for live linking.

macOS
User-chosen project folder ([Project].fspro)

User scripts in ~/Library/Preferences/FMOD Studio/Scripts. Linux uses ~/.config/fmod-studio/Scripts. Project root Scripts folder carries shared team scripts.

Frequently asked questions

What should I commit to source control for FMOD?

The .fspro, Metadata, scripts, and source assets. Skip .cache, .user, .unsaved, and built banks unless the team agreed otherwise. Banks rebuild with Ctrl or Cmd plus F7.

Where do FMOD built banks go for Unity and Unreal?

Point Build output at the Unity Assets FMOD folder or Unreal Content FMOD folder in Preferences and Build. Validate from the engine plugin to auto link the open Studio project.
