Where Does Wwise Save Projects?
Wwise stores each game audio project as a folder rooted by a .wproj file, with work units and Originals beside it.
Last updated
Wwise projects are folders, not single files. The .wproj at the root opens the project. Structure lives in .wwu work unit files through subfolders. Source recordings live in Originals. Generated banks and .wem conversions land in GeneratedSoundBanks per platform.
Default new projects suggest Documents WwiseProjects, but teams move them into game repos or Perforce workspaces. Keep .wproj with its sibling folders. Moving the pointer file alone orphans every work unit and asset reference.
Where Wwise stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\WwiseProjects\[Project]\[Project].wproj
Work units (.wwu) throughout subfolders, source in Originals, outputs in GeneratedSoundBanks. Git ignore .backup, .cache, .akd, and built banks unless the pipeline needs them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up a Wwise project?
Copy the whole project folder with .wproj, .wwu files, and Originals. That preserves structure and source audio. Generated banks rebuild from the project, so they are optional in backups.
Where do converted Wwise audio files go?
Into GeneratedSoundBanks under the project folder per platform (Windows, Mac, consoles). Conversion settings from the project control formats like Vorbis or PCM output.
