Where Does Free Download Manager Store Data?

FDM v6 keeps the queue in db.sqlite under Local AppData. The path, migration, and the old files.

Last updated

Free Download Manager v6 stores the download queue, history, and credentials in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Softdeluxe\Free Download Manager\db.sqlite. The actual downloads land in a separate folder of your choosing, not beside the database.

Migrating means copying db.sqlite to the same path on the new PC with matching drive letters for in progress items. Older FDM generations used fdm.sqlite plus groups.sav and sites.sav in Roaming, so version matters when following old guides. A silent settings reset after a crash usually means those files failed to parse.

Where Free Download Manager stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Softdeluxe\Free Download Manager\db.sqlite

Queue, history, and auth in one SQLite file. Copy with FDM closed and drive letters matching. Pre v6 used fdm.sqlite and .sav files in Roaming instead.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move fdm to a new pc

Close FDM, copy db.sqlite to the identical path on the new machine, and keep drive letters equal for unfinished downloads. Relaunch and resume; completed history travels with the same file.

fdm lost my groups and folders after a crash, why

Its settings files failed to parse on unclean shutdown and FDM fell back to defaults. The history usually survives in the Others group. Guard with the write protected C:\Downloads trick or regular db.sqlite copies.
