Where Are Gears of War: Reloaded Saves Stored?
Gears of War: Reloaded keeps Steam saves in a Coalition WarGame folder and Game Pass saves in its Xbox package.
Last updated
Gears of War: Reloaded stores its data per storefront. The Steam build uses %LOCALAPPDATA%\Coalition\WarGame, with saves in SaveData and settings in Config. The Xbox and Game Pass build lives inside its package folder under Local\Packages\Microsoft.Pender, split across SystemAppData save containers.
The Steam folder is also the crash fix. Deleting the Coalition WarGame tree clears the Xbox Live login state that causes the connecting-to-services crash, at the cost of local settings. Saves tied to your account survive. Back up SaveData first anyway.
Where Gears of War: Reloaded stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Coalition\WarGame
SaveData holds per-user saves including XBL.ue3pls; Config holds EngineUserSettings. Deleting EngineUserSettings alone resets graphics without touching saves.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Pender_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData
Saves sit under SystemAppData in XGS and WGS containers with random folder names. Harder to back up by hand than Steam; rely on Xbox cloud sync for this build.
Frequently asked questions
The Steam version crashes connecting to online services. What helps?
Quit the game and delete the WarGame folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Coalition, then relaunch without linking your Microsoft account until patched. Support and players both landed on this workaround for the Xbox Live sign-in crash.
Can I copy saves between Steam and Game Pass?
No. Steam and Xbox builds use different containers and account-bound files like XBL.ue3pls. Campaign progress syncs through your Xbox account when sign-in works, so fix the sign-in rather than copying files.
