Where Does Gerbera Store Config and Database on Linux?
Gerbera keeps config.xml in /etc/gerbera system wide, with per user copies under ~/.config/gerbera.
Last updated
Gerbera splits system and user config. Daemon installs read /etc/gerbera/config.xml with imports, transcoding profiles, and the web UI port. User runs keep their own copy under ~/.config/gerbera with a SQLite database beside it.
Back up the active config.xml plus the database for full restores. Transcoding helpers install separately and get referenced by path. Restart the service after edits and check the web UI for import errors.
Where Gerbera stores this, by platform
/etc/gerbera/config.xml
System daemon config with imports and transcoding. Root owned. Per user runs instead use ~/.config/gerbera, so back up whichever is active.
~/.config/gerbera
User config plus SQLite database for user runs. Copy with Gerbera stopped. Media files stay in their own folders elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Gerbera fully?
Copy the active config.xml and the database file beside it. Note transcoding tool paths too. Restore both before first launch on the new host.
Where is the Gerbera web UI port set?
In config.xml server section. Change it there and restart. Default credentials must change on internet facing installs.
