Where Are GTA V Save Files Located?

GTA V keeps story mode saves in a Profiles folder inside Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V. Open it and you find one subfolder with an 8-character name, tied to your Social Club profile. Inside that sit the save slots, named SGTA50000 up to SGTA50015, each with a .bak copy of whatever it overwrote, plus cfg.dat and pc_settings.bin.
Buying through Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Games Launcher does not change where saves go; only the install folder differs. The 2025 Enhanced edition is the exception, since it writes to a separate GTAV Enhanced folder beside the original. Copying the whole profile folder gives you a complete backup.

[profile folder] is an 8-character string that stays the same for your account, so the whole Profiles tree is easy to copy.
