Where Does Guitarix Store Presets on Linux?
Guitarix stores amp and effect presets in ~/.config/guitarix/banks on Linux. Copy that folder to back up every sound.
Last updated
Guitarix keeps its presets as plain files in ~/.config/guitarix, with one folder per bank under the banks/ subdirectory. Drag and drop in the UI works, but the files are right there when you want them.
That layout makes sharing trivial. A preset is a file you can email, version in git, or pull from a collection repo straight into banks/. Mark a bank read-only in Preset Selection > Organize once it sounds right, so stray edits do not creep in.
Where Guitarix stores this, by platform
~/.config/guitarix
Presets themselves sit in the banks/ subfolder. Copy the folder aside before distro upgrades; global settings can be re-made, dialed-in tones cannot.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install downloaded Guitarix presets?
Drop the .gx preset files into ~/.config/guitarix/banks and restart Guitarix. No import dialog needed; the banks picker reads that directory on startup.
What should I back up before reinstalling?
Back up the whole ~/.config/guitarix folder, or at minimum the banks subdirectory. Those files are the irreplaceable part; global settings regenerate as defaults if lost.
