Where Is the Hyprlock Config File?

Hyprlock reads a widget config with XDG search order on Linux, defaulting to .config hypr hyprlock.conf with CLI overrides. None ships by default.

Last updated

Hyprlock inverts the usual default problem. Nothing ships, so a missing config is an error rather than a fallback. One widget-based file under the hypr config folder carries the whole lockscreen.

Search order spans user XDG through system trees with command flags on top. Copy the live file for backups and seed new machines from the upstream example. No profiles or theme folders complicate the picture.

Where Hyprlock stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/hypr/hyprlock.conf

Widget config with XDG search order and CLI override flags. Ships nothing by default, erroring when absent. Seed from upstream example assets.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Hyprlock config?

Copy ~/.config/hypr/hyprlock.conf with Hyprlock idle. The search order spans XDG config home through system xdg trees with CLI flags overriding everything. Start new setups from the upstream example config.

Hyprlock errors about missing config. Why?

Create it. No config ships with install and the locker errors out when missing. The example in upstream assets is the intended starting point, not an optional extra.

Where are Hyprlock themes?

Through widget blocks without profiles or output folders. Appearance and behavior all live in the single file. The search order decides which copy wins when several exist.
