Where Does Hyprshot Save Screenshots?

Hyprshot saves to HYPRSHOT_DIR or the Pictures folder, with a working copy cached under ~/.cache/hyprshot.

Last updated

Hyprshot is a thin script over grim, slurp and wl-copy: it captures, stashes a working copy in ~/.cache/hyprshot, then files the timestamped PNG into the save dir and copies it to the clipboard.

The save dir resolves as HYPRSHOT_DIR first, XDG_PICTURES_DIR second, home last. Per-run flags (-o for folder, -f for filename) beat all three without changing your setup.

Where Hyprshot stores this, by platform

Linux
~/Pictures

Timestamped PNGs (date_hyprshot.png). Bind modes (window, region, output) in ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf; --raw streams to stdout for pipelines.

Frequently asked questions

My screenshots land somewhere unexpected. How do I pin the folder?

Set HYPRSHOT_DIR to the folder you want. Without it, Hyprshot uses XDG_PICTURES_DIR and finally the home directory, so check those before assuming loss.

Can I copy to clipboard without saving a file?

Pass --clipboard-only. It skips the file entirely and pipes grim output straight to wl-copy instead of the save dir.
