Where Are Windows Color Profiles Stored?

Windows stores ICC color profiles in the spool drivers color folder, split between system and user installs.

Last updated

Windows reads monitor and printer color profiles from the spool drivers color folder. System-wide profiles live there for every account, while per-user installs sit in the profile's own color directory.

That split explains vanishing calibrations. A profile installed just for you disappears with the account and never applies at the login screen. Color Management installs for all users when run elevated, which is the durable setup for shared or calibrated displays.

Where Windows stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

System-wide ICC profiles for displays and printers. Install through Color Management as admin for profiles that survive logouts and reinstalls.

Frequently asked questions

My monitor profile keeps disappearing. Why?

Install it for all users through Color Management so it lands in the system folder. Per-user installs vanish with the profile and confuse the next login.
