Where Does ImageGlass Store Settings?

ImageGlass three file config model on Windows, and the marker that forces portable mode.

Last updated

ImageGlass layers three JSON files: igconfig.default.json for starting defaults and igconfig.admin.json for locked settings (both in the startup dir, never written, never merged), with your live igconfig.json in the config dir (%LOCALAPPDATA%\ImageGlass standard; MSIX redirects into its container).

The same folder carries license, thumbnail cache (100 MB default), temp, logs, plugins, languages and themes. Portable v10 uses an .igportable marker in the startup folder; unwritable startups fall back to LocalAppData silently. Upgrading v9 to v10 resets settings (formats differ, with a migration tool for the default file), so back up igconfig.json first. Admin files need a Pro license to pin anything.

Where ImageGlass stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\ImageGlass\igconfig.json

Live user settings (only file ImageGlass writes). Defaults in startup dir igconfig.default.json; locks in igconfig.admin.json (Pro). Portable via .igportable marker (v10). MSIX reads real AppData copy. Windows focused; Mac/Linux v10 paths unverified.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up ImageGlass settings?

Copy igconfig.json from the config dir (Settings, General, Configuration location reveals it). The default and admin files are templates, not your data.

Why did ImageGlass forget settings after the v10 upgrade?

v9 igconfig format is rejected outright (first launch even blocks on it). Back up, uninstall v9, delete the config folder, install v10, optionally migrate the old file with the migration tool.
