Where Does Infuse Store Downloads and Library Data?

Infuse streams from your servers, caches metadata on device, and syncs library state through iCloud and Trakt.

Last updated

Infuse needs no local video library because it streams from NAS, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, or cloud drives. Videos you explicitly download for offline sit in the app's container. Everything else stays on the server.

The valuable state is metadata: shares, favorites, corrections, watched history, and playback progress. That syncs through iCloud and Trakt, not through files you copy. Artwork caches locally per device and re-downloads freely, so it is never worth backing up.

Where Infuse stores this, by platform

iOS
In-app downloads (offline files) + iCloud sync (library state)

Downloaded videos live in the app container for offline viewing. Shares, corrections, and watched history sync via iCloud and Trakt across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. Deleting the app wipes downloads but not the synced state.

macOS
Streamed sources + iCloud sync (library state)

Mac builds share the same iCloud library as iOS. Point them at the same shares and corrections carry over. Local XML sidecar files beside videos override fetched metadata when you want control.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to back up Infuse metadata?

No file backup needed. Shares, favorites, corrections, and watched states sync through iCloud, with Trakt covering watched history. Reinstall, sign in, and the library rebuilds. Artwork re-downloads on its own.

Where are Infuse offline downloads?

Inside the app's container, fetched with the download action on a title. They play without network and delete with the app. Keep originals on your server or cloud drive since the app copy is the disposable one.
