Where Does ClipGrab Save Downloaded Videos?

ClipGrab prompts for a save spot on each download and remembers a target folder in Settings. Downloads default to Videos or Downloads.

Last updated

ClipGrab does not keep a library. Each finished video goes where you tell it in the save dialog, in the original format or converted to MP3, MPEG4, or similar. The Settings tab holds a default target folder so you can skip the prompt.

That settings tab is the only persistent state worth knowing. It also holds metadata, notification, and proxy options. There is no project database to back up. Your downloads folder is the archive, so point the target there and organize with the file manager. Format and quality are picked per download.

Where ClipGrab stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\Videos

Default download landing zone on Windows until you set a target folder in Settings.

macOS
/Users/<username>/Movies

Default target on Mac. Change it under the Settings tab to a media folder of your choice.

Linux
/home/<username>/Videos

Default target on Linux. ClipGrab is a Qt app and follows the XDG user dirs for the initial default.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change where ClipGrab saves?

Open the Settings tab and set the target folder. Until then ClipGrab asks each time, defaulting to the system Videos or Downloads folder.

Can ClipGrab watch my clipboard?

Yes, in Settings. You can also set clipboard monitoring there so copied video links land in the download queue automatically.
