Where Does InkBox Store Books and Settings?

InkBox open source Kobo OS storage, config files and USB transfer.

Last updated

InkBox replaces the stock Kobo OS with an open Linux reader: books in onboard storage, settings and Wi-Fi profiles in plain config files on the same filesystem. Everything is visible over USB mass storage from a computer.

That openness is the backup story. Copy the book folders and the config tree off before major updates, since experimental builds can require reflashing. The Kobo store and sync vanish with the stock OS by design; sideloaded files and KOReader style progress are what travel.

Where InkBox OS stores this, by platform

Linux
Onboard storage over USB (books plus config tree in plain files)

Device mounts as USB storage for drag and drop books. Configs live as editable files beside the system folders. Snapshot both before flashing new InkBox releases.

Frequently asked questions

does InkBox keep my Kobo purchases

No. Replacing the OS drops Kobo store access and synced annotations. Download any owned books beforehand where the store allows, then sideload them as files into InkBox.

how do I back up InkBox settings

Copy the config files off over USB with the books. Wi-Fi profiles, reader defaults and dictionaries all live there in plain text. Restore by writing the same tree back.
