Where Are iPhone Focus Modes Stored?

iPhone Focus modes live in Settings > Focus and sync through iCloud. Each mode holds its own allowed people, apps, and filters.

Focus modes are not files you can copy. They live in iOS settings under Settings, then Focus, with each mode bundling silence rules, allowed contacts, permitted apps, and lock screen links. iCloud carries the set across your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Watch when sharing is on.

The useful half hides at the bottom: Focus Filters. Those tell individual apps how to behave inside a mode, like showing only a work calendar or a Safari tab group. Schedules and automations trigger modes by time, location, or app. Back up the phone and the modes come along; there is no separate export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set up a Focus mode?

Open Settings, then Focus, and pick the mode. Allowed people and apps sit under each mode, and Focus Filters at the bottom tune app behavior inside it. A new mode starts from the presets like Do Not Disturb, Work, or Sleep.

Do Focus modes sync between iPhone and Mac?

Yes through iCloud, along with the modes themselves. Deleting a mode on one device removes it everywhere. Per-device differences come from the Share Across Devices toggle and from notification settings that stay local to each screen.
