Where Is the Ironbar Config File on Linux?

Ironbar bar config and stylesheet paths with format and override options on Linux.

Last updated

Ironbar reads one config file plus one stylesheet from an ironbar folder under XDG config. Four formats work for the config. The stylesheet is always style.css.

Two env vars override the defaults. IRONBAR_CONFIG points at a custom config, IRONBAR_CSS at custom styling. Scripted setups often set these, so a missing default folder may mean overrides are active.

Where Ironbar stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/ironbar/config.json

One of four formats (json, toml, yaml, corn) plus hot loaded style.css. Follows XDG config home. Overridable via IRONBAR_CONFIG and IRONBAR_CSS env vars. No themes directory exists.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Ironbar?

Copy the whole ironbar folder with the bar stopped. It holds config plus style.css. Restoring means putting the folder back and relaunching. Env overrides can redirect both files, so check those first on odd setups.

Which config format should I use?

Pick one: config.json, config.toml, config.yaml or config.corn in the same folder. Styling always lives in style.css beside it and hot reloads. There is no themes directory.
