Where Does KeePass2Android Store Databases?

KeePass2Android opens .kdbx vaults wherever you keep them and remembers recent ones. Best spots and backup advice are inside.

Last updated

KeePass2Android does not own your passwords file. Your vault is a .kdbx file (plus an optional key file) that can sit in device storage, an SD card, or any cloud provider the app can reach. The app only remembers where you put things.

Back up the vault files, not the app. Copy the .kdbx and key file to a second location and you can open them in any KeePass-compatible app on any platform, phone or desktop. Losing the phone then costs nothing but hardware.

Where KeePass2Android stores this, by platform

Android
/storage/emulated/0/keepass2android

Suggested home for local vault copies; any folder works since the location is user-chosen. App settings and recent-file list stay in private storage. Back up the .kdbx plus key file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move KeePass2Android to a new phone?

Copy the .kdbx file plus any key file to the new phone (USB, cloud, or SD card), then open it in KeePass2Android. Recent-file entries rebuild themselves on first open.

I reinstalled and my recent databases are gone. Are vaults lost?

They are just shortcuts: the vault files themselves are untouched wherever you stored them. Reopen each .kdbx from storage to rebuild the list.
