Where Does KeePassDX Store Vaults and Settings?
KeePassDX opens .kdbx vaults you place anywhere. App prefs sit in its sandbox, vaults stay wherever you saved them.
Last updated
KeePassDX separates the vault from the app. Your .kdbx file lives wherever you put it: Downloads, a synced folder, a USB stick. The sandbox holds preferences and recent-file paths only.
That design makes backup obvious. Copy the vault file. Losing the phone loses nothing if the vault sits in synced storage. Biometric unlock is convenience over the same file, not a second copy.

Preferences and recent paths. Flavor package names differ here. Vault .kdbx files live outside, wherever you saved them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up my KeePassDX passwords?
Copy the .kdbx file itself. KeePassDX never moves your vault into its sandbox. The app only remembers the path, so keep the file in safe storage.
KeePassDX free versus Pro folders?
Free and Pro flavors use different package names, so the sandbox folder differs. Vault files are unaffected. Open the same .kdbx in either flavor.
Can KeePassDX open vaults from a cloud folder?
Yes through the system picker. Open vaults from shared storage or a synced folder. The sandbox holds settings, never the vault.
