Where Does KeyShot Store Resources and Scenes?
KeyShot keeps materials, environments and textures in a versioned resources folder. Locations on Windows and Mac, plus folder prefs.
Last updated
KeyShot loads every material, environment and texture from one resources folder. Open a .bip scene and it resolves against that location. The folder name carries the version, like KeyShot 12 or KeyShot Studio, so upgrades start a fresh one instead of mixing libraries.
Two install modes fork the path on Windows. Just For Me lands in your Documents, For Everybody in Public Documents. macOS keeps it under Application Support at the system level. Remap anything under Preferences > Folders, where each resource type can also gain extra shared folders.
Where KeyShot stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\KeyShot Studio
Just For Me installs. For Everybody uses C:\Users\Public\Documents\KeyShot Studio instead. Older releases swap Studio for the version number. A desktop shortcut points here after install.
/Library/Application Support/KeyShot
Note the system-level Library, not the user one. Older versions append the release, like KeyShot10. License file and KSSettings.xml sit beside the resources.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move the KeyShot resources folder?
Open Preferences > Folders and set a new default for all resources, or remap single types like Environments and Textures. KeyShot restarts to apply it. Copy your custom assets over before deleting the old folder.
Where do downloaded KeyShot assets go?
Into the matching subfolder of the resources path above: textures to Textures, HDRIs to Environments, and so on. The KeyShot Library reads from exactly those spots, so keep imports inside them.
