Where Does MadMapper Store Projects and Materials?

MadMapper workspace, materials and project files on Windows and macOS, plus the defaults to know.

Last updated

MadMapper keeps user content in a workspace folder set under Preferences. The default sits in Documents/MadMapper on both platforms. Installed materials live in the Materials subfolder there.

Project files (.madbrief or show files) save wherever you choose, ideally inside the workspace so relative links survive. Factory materials and demos ship with the app. Treat the workspace folder as the backup unit, not the app install.

Where MadMapper stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\MadMapper\Materials

User materials go in the Materials subfolder. Set or confirm the path under Preferences / Workspace. Copy material folders there, then refresh from inside the Materials Library.

macOS
~/Documents/MadMapper/Materials

Same Documents default as Windows. MadMapper 5 and later run native on Apple Silicon. Keep show projects under the workspace so moves between Macs stay intact.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move MadMapper work to another machine?

Copy the whole MadMapper workspace folder with the app closed. That keeps materials, presets and project files together. Media referenced from elsewhere needs Collect handling per project.

Do I need to reinstall downloaded materials?

No. Copy the material folder into the workspace Materials folder and press refresh next to Local in the Materials Library. No restart is needed.
