Where Does khal Store Config and Calendars?
khal reads calendars from ~/.config/khal with events as .ics files in the configured vdir folders.
Last updated
khal configures from a config file under .config/khal in your home directory. The file names each calendar and points it at a vdir folder of .ics event files. Sync tools like vdirsyncer fill those folders from CalDAV servers.
Events themselves are plain iCalendar files, one per event. Discovery walks the configured paths on every run. Keep calendars per context and let the display settings handle presentation.
Where khal stores this, by platform
~/.config/khal/config
Calendar names mapped to vdir paths live here. Event .ics files sit in the listed folders. Validate by running khal list after edits.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my actual events?
As .ics files in the vdir folders named by the khal config, synced from CalDAV by vdirsyncer. Back up those folders with the config. The app never hides events elsewhere.
Can khal share calendars with todoman?
Yes when both point at compatible vdir layouts. Calendars and task lists are sibling folder types. Keep their configs pointed at distinct folders to avoid mixups.
