Where Does Kontakt Store Sample Libraries?
Kontakt libraries install to Native Access content folders: Public Documents on Windows, Shared on Mac. Moving and relocating them.
Last updated
Kontakt itself is small. The gigabytes live in per-product library folders installed by Native Access into its Content Location. Each library folder carries a .nicnt file that marks it as a real library. No .nicnt, no browser entry.
Check the active path any time under Native Access Preferences > File Management. Dedicate an external drive early if your system disk is tight, since orchestral libraries run into hundreds of gigabytes. Moved a folder by hand? Repair or Locate it in Native Access rather than reinstalling.
Where Kontakt stores this, by platform
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents
Default Native Access content root; each library gets its own subfolder with a .nicnt file. Relocate through Preferences > File Management, or Repair a moved library from Library > Installed.
/Users/Shared
Same content-root role as Windows. Native Access itself lives in /Applications. Moving a library means Locate in Kontakt's Libraries tab or Repair in Native Access afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a Kontakt library to another drive?
Close everything audio-related, move the library folder, then open Native Access and Repair it from Library > Installed, browsing to the new spot. Kontakt's Locate button in the Libraries tab does the same job.
Can two computers share Kontakt libraries on one external drive?
Yes. Install programs internally on each machine, set both Content Locations to the external drive, then install or Locate the libraries there. Keep the drive letter or mount point identical on both systems.
