Where Does Spitfire Audio Store Sample Libraries?

Spitfire libraries default to a Spitfire folder in your home directory. Defaults on Windows and Mac, moving them and the db.db3 fix.

Last updated

The Spitfire Audio app installs every library under one Default Content Path: a Spitfire folder in your home directory unless you picked an external drive at install. Each library folder carries Patches, Presets and Samples, the bulk of the download. Plugin binaries (.vst/.vst3) go to system plugin folders regardless, so don't hunt libraries there.

Small settings files glue plugins to content: a Spitfire.Properties pointer plus per-plugin .Settings folders. Check the live path any time in the app under Settings > Default Content Path. Repair a moved library from the app rather than reinstalling it.

Where Spitfire Audio stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Spitfire

Default content root; LABS packs often group under Samples/LABS by recommendation. Plugin settings (Spitfire.Properties plus per-plugin .Settings) live in a concealed system folder per the support guide, so leave them alone.

macOS
/Users/[Username]/Spitfire

Same default-root role as Windows. Plugin settings live in ~/Music/Spitfire Audio/Settings. Change the Default Content Path in app Settings before bulk downloads to an external drive.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Spitfire libraries to an external drive?

Set the new Default Content Path in the Spitfire Audio app Settings and let it relocate the files. Keep the drive mounted at the same path afterwards. The plugin binaries stay in system folders and don't move.

A moved Spitfire library isn't found, how do I repair it?

Open the Spitfire Audio app Settings and confirm the Default Content Path points at the library's new parent. The plugin follows its Spitfire.Properties pointer, so pointing the app right once fixes every library underneath.
