Where Does Kotatsu Store Manga and Backups?
Kotatsu keeps downloads in app storage with user-chosen folders and ZIP backups. Android paths and export.
Last updated
Kotatsu splits downloads from settings. Chapters download as CBZ files into a folder you pick in settings, internal or SD or custom through the file picker. There is no fixed Kotatsu folder by default, which surprises people hunting storage root.
The portable piece is the backup ZIP. Creating one from settings bundles history, favorites, categories, bookmarks and sources into a file you place yourself. That ZIP is explicitly not the Mihon/Tachiyomi tachibk format, so sibling forks cannot import it. Private app data holds the live database underneath.
Where Kotatsu stores this, by platform
User-chosen downloads folder (default app storage)
Package org.koitharu.kotatsu. Pick the folder in Settings Downloads; CBZ files land there. App-specific external copies sit under Android/data/org.koitharu.kotatsu. Backups are user-placed ZIPs, not tachibk.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Kotatsu properly?
Use Settings Backup and Restore to create a data backup ZIP in a folder you choose. That file carries history, favorites and sources. Keep downloads separately since the ZIP covers library state rather than chapter files.
Can I import a Mihon backup into Kotatsu?
No. Kotatsu uses its own ZIP format while Mihon and Tachiyomi share tachibk. History and favorites need manual rebuilding across the divide. Downloads as CBZ files open anywhere regardless.
Where are Kotatsu downloads stored?
In the folder chosen under Settings Downloads, defaulting to app-managed storage. Change it per library needs including SD cards. Private database files beside them need no manual handling.
