Where Are League of Legends Replays Stored?

League of Legends Replays folder with .rofl files, and why old replays break every patch.

Last updated

League saves match replays as .rofl files in a Replays folder under Documents, then League of Legends. They record from your download of the match, not from a server copy.

Replays die every patch. A .rofl only plays on the exact game version that recorded it, so archive what matters and expect the rest to expire.

Where League of Legends stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\League of Legends\Replays

Double click a .rofl to play it in the client. Highlights save from the same folder after you clip them in the replay viewer.

macOS
~/Documents/League of Legends/Replays

Same .rofl format and patch expiry as Windows. Keep the client on the recording version if you must keep one playable.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my old replay open?

The client patched since recording. Replays are version locked, so only current patch games play.

Where are highlights I clipped from replays?

In the Highlights folder next to Replays as .webm files. Those survive patches because they are plain video.
