Where Does Lightshot Save Screenshots?

Lightshot copies captures to clipboard and prntscr links by default, with optional local saves where you choose.

Last updated

Lightshot defaults to ephemeral sharing. Press Print Screen, select an area, then copy, save, or upload to a prntscr link. Nothing lands on disk unless you pick Save or enable auto save in options. That surprises users expecting a screenshots folder.

Links live in Lightshot history tied to your session, while local files go to the folder set in options (Desktop suits most). For dependable archives, save locally every time rather than trusting link history years later. Similar image search runs against uploads, not your disk.

Where Lightshot stores this, by platform

Windows
User-chosen folder (upload to prntscr.com by default)

Set auto save path in Lightshot options. Exact prefs location may vary by version. History of links stays in app, not as files.

macOS
User-chosen folder (upload to prntscr.com by default)

Same model as Windows. Grant screen recording permission on first run or captures come out black.

Frequently asked questions

Where did my Lightshot screenshot go?

Likely only to clipboard or a prntscr link. Open history for the link, or enable file saving in options so future captures land in your chosen folder automatically.

Are Lightshot prntscr links permanent?

Treat them as convenience, not archive. Save important captures locally since link retention is outside your control.
