Where Does Lime3DS Store Save Files?
Lime3DS 3DS saves inside its user folder under sdmc, mirroring a real console SD card.
Last updated
Lime3DS descends from Citra, so everything persists in one user directory with an sdmc folder playing the role of the 3DS SD card. Game saves sit under sdmc/Nintendo 3DS in title folders full of zeros where a console would show its own ID.
Open it from inside the emulator with File and then Open Lime3DS Folder instead of typing paths. Like its parent, a folder named user next to the executable switches it to portable mode, overriding every path below. The folder name is the main difference from Citra: Lime3DS everywhere Citra used to be.
Where Lime3DS stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Lime3DS\sdmc
The full user folder is %APPDATA%\Lime3DS. Saves live under sdmc\Nintendo 3DS in the title subfolders. Portable mode uses a user folder beside the exe instead.
~/Library/Application Support/Lime3DS/sdmc
Same layout as Windows under Application Support. The in app Open Folder command avoids unhiding Library by hand.
~/.local/share/lime3ds/sdmc
Config sits separately at ~/.config/lime3ds. Sandbox packaged installs relocate the tree under their sandbox instead, so check there if this path looks empty.
Frequently asked questions
can i move a save from my real 3ds into lime3ds
Yes. Dump the save with Checkpoint on a modded 3DS, then place the files into the matching title folder under sdmc. Lime3DS reads the console layout directly because it inherits the Citra structure.
where are lime3ds save states kept
Save states live apart from cartridge saves, under a states folder in the user directory. Back up both folders if you mix save states with in game saving, since neither one contains the other.
