Where Does Linkding Store Bookmarks?
Linkding stores bookmarks in db.sqlite3 inside the data dir. Back up that file plus any env overrides for restores.
Last updated
Linkding keeps one stateful file: db.sqlite3 in its data directory, mounted from the host in Docker installs. Superuser creation, backups, and restores all revolve around that file. Env vars tune admin credentials and data paths. Background snapshots write beside the database between backups.
The app also cachesfavicons and snapshots beside the database. Those regenerate, so the sqlite file is the backup priority. Keep the container stopped during copies to avoid a mid write snapshot. Snapshot and favicon caches rebuild on next access after restores.
Where Linkding stores this, by platform
/etc/linkding/data/db.sqlite3
Bookmarks, tags, users, and settings in one SQLite file. The backup unit. Copy with the app stopped.
/opt/linkding/data/db.sqlite3
Host side of the data mount in compose installs. Holds the sqlite file plus caches. Back up the whole folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Linkding?
Copy db.sqlite3 out of the data dir with the container stopped. That one file holds bookmarks, tags, and users. Restore by swapping it back.
How do I move the Linkding database?
Point the data dir env var or volume at the new spot and restart. The database filename stays the same, only the parent moves.
