Where Does Linkwarden Store Bookmarks and Archives?

Linkwarden stores uploads and page archives in its /data/data volume on Docker, with links metadata in Postgres.

Last updated

Linkwarden keeps link metadata and link content apart. Postgres holds titles, tags, and collections. The data volume holds the heavy files: screenshots, PDFs, and uploads. A backup needs both sides.

Host folders differ because everyone writes their own compose file. Read the volumes section of yours and follow the mount that lands on /data/data inside the container. That folder is the one to copy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Linkwarden?

Back up the Postgres database plus the data volume holding files, screenshots, and PDF archives. One without the other gives dead links or orphaned files.

My host path differs. Where do I check?

Open your compose file and read the volumes of the Linkwarden service. Host paths vary per setup, but the container side stays /data/data across versions.

Does Linkwarden keep local copies of pages?

Yes for full page snapshots. Linkwarden archives pages as screenshots and PDFs into the data volume, so old links keep working after the original site changes.
