Where Does Linphone Store Its Config?
Linphone config file and call history databases on desktop Linux, Windows and Mac.
Last updated
Current Linphone keeps its config in linphonerc under the platform home: ~/.config/linphone on Linux, %LOCALAPPDATA%\linphone on Windows, ~/Library/Preferences/linphone on Mac. History, contacts and avatars sit in .db files under the matching data folder (~/.local/share/linphone and equivalents).
Upgraders meet the legacy path. The old CLI default ~/.linphonerc moved to ~/.config/linphone for the Qt GUI, which migrates it on first run, so let the GUI launch once before hand editing. Very old Windows installs may show a Roaming variant instead of Local. Mobile apps are sandboxed with no browsable path.
Where Linphone stores this, by platform
~/.config/linphone/linphonerc
Current Qt GUI path (proxies, codecs, folders). Legacy CLI default was ~/.linphonerc; the GUI migrates it on first run. Data (linphone.db, call-history.db, friends.db, logs) in ~/.local/share/linphone.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\linphone\linphonerc
No leading dot in the filename. Very old installs may use %APPDATA%\Linphone\linphonerc instead; check both. Data and logs under %LOCALAPPDATA%\linphone.
~/Library/Preferences/linphone/linphonerc
Config split from data per the official layout. Data (.db files, logs, avatars) in ~/Library/Application Support/linphone.
Frequently asked questions
Linphone ignores my old config after upgrading. Why?
It moved. The legacy ~/.linphonerc migrates to ~/.config/linphone/linphonerc only when the GUI app runs once. Launch it, let migration finish, then edit the new file.
Where is my Linphone call history?
In call-history.db inside the data folder (~/.local/share/linphone on Linux, equivalents elsewhere). Copy linphone.db and friends.db too for a full history plus contacts migration.
