Where Are Little Nightmares (2017) Save Files Located?
Where the first Little Nightmares hides saves inside its install folder, and why uninstalls eat them.
Last updated
The first Little Nightmares breaks the Unreal convention its sequel follows: saves live inside the install folder at <GameDir>\Atlas\Saved\SaveGames, not in AppData. Atlas is the internal project name, so the store title appears nowhere in the path.
Install relative saves mean uninstalls and file verifications can wipe progress without warning. That is the whole post in one sentence: copy the Atlas folder out before Steam touches the install. Steam Cloud offers a partial safety net, but the manual copy is the one you control.
Where Little Nightmares stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Little Nightmares\Atlas\Saved\SaveGames
SaveGames holds the slots; Config beside it holds graphics INIs. Reach it via Steam Library > Right click > Manage > Browse local files, then Atlas\Saved. Copy the folder out before any uninstall, verify, or drive move.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/424840/pfx/.../Little Nightmares/Atlas/Saved/SaveGames
Same install relative tree inside the Proton prefix for app 424840. Copy the Windows folder contents straight in. GOG builds use their own install root but the identical Atlas\Saved tail.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up little nightmares 1 saves
Copy the Atlas\Saved\SaveGames folder out of the install directory before touching anything (for Steam: steamapps\common\Little Nightmares\Atlas\Saved\SaveGames). Paste it back after reinstalling. Steam Cloud may also restore it, but the manual copy is certain.
does uninstalling little nightmares delete saves
Yes, because the saves live inside the game folder rather than AppData. Steam's uninstall removes the whole tree including Atlas\Saved. Treat every uninstall or verify as a wipe and copy the folder first. The sequel moved to AppData and avoids this.
where is the little nightmares 1 config file
In the Config folder beside SaveGames under the same Atlas tree (WindowsNoEditor INI files). Edit with the game closed. These reset on verify, so keep a copy next to your save backup.
