Where Does LLDAP Store Config and Database?

LLDAP persists /data in Docker with lldap_config.toml plus users.db SQLite. Packages use /etc/lldap instead.

Last updated

LLDAP keeps config and database side by side in one folder. Docker mounts it at /data with lldap_config.toml and users.db inside. Distro packages split the same files under /etc/lldap.

Environment variables prefixed LLDAP_ override file values, which suits secrets management. Either way the SQLite file must persist across restarts or every user vanishes with the container.

Where LLDAP stores this, by platform

Linux
/data (inside container)

Config plus SQLite users.db. Bind a host folder or named volume here. The folder is the whole backup for SQLite setups.

Linux
/etc/lldap/lldap_config.toml

Distro package convention. Same files as the container path, different root. Check FreeBSD under /usr/local/lldap_server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up LLDAP?

Copy the whole /data folder: config plus users.db. External MySQL or Postgres users still need a DB dump. Secrets can also ride in LLDAP_ env vars.

Can LLDAP use Postgres?

Set database_url to a MySQL or Postgres URL. SQLite suits small setups. The config file location stays the same either way.

Where is the default admin password?

Change it in the config or LLDAP_LDAP_USER_PASS and restart. Defaults are public knowledge, so this is deployment step one.
